He kai kei aku ringa
“Providing kai by my own hands”
We are a not-for-profit organisation based in Te
Tauihu (Top of the South Island), offering
programmes for children, teenagers, and adults
to learn hunting, diving, fishing, gathering, and
preparing kai.
Through regular, seasonal wānanga, participants
build confidence, resilience, and wellbeing while
connecting to the environment, their kai, and
their communities.
Programmes range from week-long intensives to
weekend and evening sessions run over several
months.
We teach kaitiakitanga to protect our
environment, tino rangatiratanga to empower
participants to feed their people, and
manaakitanga to ensure we always give back —
to whānau, kaumātua, kaupapa, and those in
need.
These skills foster self-worth, purpose, and the
ability for whānau to thrive and contribute
meaningfully to their communities.
